July is National Hot Dog Month! National Hot Dog and Sausage Council estimates that over seven billion hot dogs will be eaten by Americans between Memorial Day and Labor Day. In celebration, below is a recipe straight from our Grandma’s personal cookbook. It’s been made for generations of summer barbeques and we hope you enjoy it!

Grandma B’s Ballpark Franks with Pepper Relish

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 large yellow onion
2 medium peppers (1 green, 1 red)
3 tablespoons water
1 tablespoons light brown sugar
2 teaspoons white wine vinegar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon minced parsley
4 hot dogs of your choice
4 hot dog buns split in half
4 teaspoons prepared mustard

To make pepper relish:

Core, seed and chop peppers. Heat oil, medium heat: sauté onion and peppers 5 minutes. Stir in water, sugar, vinegar, & salt. Lower heat, cover, simmer 5 minutes, then stir in parsley.

Hot Dogs:

Grill or boil the, turning every 7 minutes until brown on all sides. Warm buns alongside dogs last 3 minutes. Place hot dog on bun, spread with mustard, top with relish.
